Głogów Głęboki-Przemysłowy is the largest deep-water mining project in Europe in terms of resources. Exploitation of the deposit will allow KGHM to maintain the level of extraction in Poland for several dozen years to come.

General information

The Polish Głogów Głęboki-Przemysłowy (GG-P) deposit is located in Lower Silesia. The project is 100% owned by KGHM. The estimated balance of ore resources is nearly 300 million tonnes, with an average copper content of 2.40%. They constitute about ¼ of copper resources and about 1/3 of silver resources in all license areas of KGHM in Poland. The Rudna and Polkowice-Sieroszowice mine infrastructure is used for mining the deposit.

The Głogów Głęboki - Przemysłowy deposit is characterized by the deepest deposit of copper-bearing rocks among the deposits currently used. The deposit layers lie deeper than the neighboring Rudna and Sieroszowice deposits, and the maximum deposit depth reaches as much as 1385 m. The geological works carried out so far in this field indicate a much smaller degree of deposit of the deposit, but they appear much more deeply than in the other deposits intensified thermal and gas phenomena. In the Głogów Głęboki-Przemysłowy deposit, balance bookings include all three basic lithological types of ores: sandstones constituting about 60% of resources, shale - 13% and dolomites - about 27% of the industrial resources of this deposit.

History

The first entry with preparatory and exploratory workings into the GG-P mining area took place in June 2005.

The project covered the construction of the GG-1 shaft, the extension of central air-conditioning and the construction and equipment of excavations with the basic technical infrastructure.

The construction of the new shaft is carried out in stages and will end in 2020. It will be the deepest of 31 shafts in the Copper Basin, with a target depth of 1340 m and a diameter of 7.5 m. Preparations for launching the mining department in box XXVIII / 1 lasted over two years. In April 2014, from the level below 1200 m GG-P, the first bucket of spoil was removed. Currently, works are being carried out related to the drilling of the GG-1 shaft, construction of a surface central air conditioning station at the R-IX shaft and the performance of works that make subsequent parts available for exploitation.

Production

As predicted in the years 2028-2035, that is in the period of the greatest intensity of exploitation works, production from this area will amount to 10-11 million tons of ore and 200-220 thousand. tonnes of electrolytic copper per year.

The exploitation of the GG-P field will allow KGHM to maintain a stable level of extraction in Poland for the next 20-30 years.
